About MR. Plascencia

Eddie Plascencia, a San Jose native, began his coaching career in 2018, assisting in youth training camps. It was here that he discovered his passion for developing fundamental skills in young athletes.

Coach Eddie believes that “The Details Matter, and as coaches, trainers, and teachers, it’s our job to provide these kids with the tools they need to succeed.”

In the seven years since, Eddie has built an impressive resume:

* Three successful seasons as a High School Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach
* Three successful seasons as a High School JV Basketball Head Coach
One successful season as a Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach
* Three seasons of AAU (Amateur Athletics Union) Head Coaching experience

During his time at KIPP San Jose Collegiate, under Varsity Basketball Head Coach Sunny Sing, Eddie made an immediate impact, helping the team reach the playoffs for the first time in five years.

Sunny said, “He brings energy, passion, and knowledge for the game. He’s been in their shoes, so he can relate, and he’s someone the players know they can count on.” In Eddie’s last season at KIPP SJC, he helped coach the team to its first League Championship, with an undefeated conference record (10-0) – a first in school history.

As a former standout high school player with six years of competitive experience, Eddie offers invaluable insights. In 2008, he was inducted into the Leyva Middle School Hall of Fame for Basketball Honors, where he earned MVP honors while maintaining a 3.5 GPA. At Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California, he led the league in rebounding and scoring as a freshman and was quickly promoted to varsity during his sophomore year. Building on this early success, Eddie led his team in scoring and rebounding during his junior and senior years. He also led his team to back-to-back playoff appearances, earning Team MVP and 1st Team All-League honors twice.

In 2025, Coach Eddie begins a new chapter as the Varsity Girls Head Coach for the Branham Bruins, where he aims to win their next League Championship.

Coaching philosophy

I am relentless in my pursuit of excellence on and off the court. I believe that training the fundamentals and challenging our athlete’s mental understanding of the game are essential for player development. Intensity, dedication, and passion will be at the core of this program. Athletes will be coached hard, challenged and encouraged to grow through adversity. Coaches and players will work together to ensure a focused and engaging environment where every athlete can thrive. We all play an important role and can be counted on to create a competitive winning culture every day that we step into the gym.

As a coach, I am always ready to lead. This includes staying organized and prepared for all practices, game plans, scouting reports, film sessions, and managing everything else in between. Part of being a great leader is possessing the ability to remain organized and thoroughly prepared while remaining flexible for any UN foreseen variables. It’s providing a clear and proactive communication line with parents, administration, and athletes that are essential for keeping everyone informed and involved.

I believe that recognizing and adapting to individual learning styles is crucial for success. To achieve our program goals, it’s essential that we know how to assess our athletes, understand their motivations, and identify factors that may undermine their confidence. Therefore, I’m committed to building a coaching program where our coaches are skilled at identifying and responding to each athlete’s unique needs. We want our athletes to be better having been a part of our program and understanding how to communicate with them is monumental to our success.

Coaches will aim to develop well-rounded student-athletes by teaching valuable life skills that extend beyond the basketball court. To achieve this, we’ll set the expectation of punctuality and preparedness for both academic and athletic activities. By doing this we can hold our student athletes accountable on campus, in the classroom and on the basketball court.

These standards will be enforced and the athletes who do not meet team standards and expectations will face appropriate disciplinary action.
